Oghenemine Killing: Dismissed Police Officers Plead Not Guilty as Trial Begins in Delta
Five dismissed police officers, including a former Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), have pleaded not guilty to charges arising from the alleged extra-judicial killing of Warri-based musician, Oghenemine Ogidi, popularly known as “OG Million,” in Delta State.
The defendants were arraigned on Tuesday before Justice M. Nduka of the Delta State High Court 4 sitting in Asaba over the incident which occurred on April 26, 2026, in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.
The prime suspect, former ASP Usman Nuhu, also known as “Ogbegbe,” was docked alongside former ASPs Owoloko Daurou Pamo and Okoh Kelechi, as well as Inspectors Goodluck Kingsley and Omonigho Ahweyevu.
According to the charges, Nuhu is facing a count of murder under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C21, Volume 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006, while the other four defendants were charged with negligent acts causing harm under Section 344 of the same law.
All five defendants pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.
Following their pleas, Justice Nduka adjourned proceedings to July 14, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
Speaking after the arraignment, Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, who led the prosecution, said the state was prepared to pursue the matter diligently.
“The defendants have been arraigned and have taken their pleas, as they are entitled to do. They pleaded not guilty, but our case is very straightforward. Nobody has the right to make himself the accuser, the judge and the executioner,” he said.
Ohwovoriole described the circumstances surrounding the incident as disturbing and assured the public that justice would take its course.
“We are fully prepared for the trial. I assure the public that justice will be served,” he added.
Counsel representing two of the defendants, C. Promise, also confirmed readiness for trial and noted that the matter had been adjourned to July 14.
The late Ogidi, aged 28 and popularly known in entertainment circles as “OG Million,” was reportedly killed at Effurun Main Motor Park after allegedly being apprehended while attempting to send a parcel said to contain a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition to a recipient in Sapele.
Reports indicated that the victim had been restrained with his hands tied behind his back before he was fatally shot in public. A video of the incident later circulated widely on social media, drawing public outrage and renewed calls for accountability.
