BREAKING: Governor Oborevwori Suspends Rector, Bursar of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku for Six Months
Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, in his capacity as Visitor to the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, has approved the immediate suspension of the institution’s Rector and Bursar for a period of six months.
The Governor also upheld the earlier suspension of the Polytechnic’s Registrar, which had been recommended by the institution’s Governing Council.
A statement issued and signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, stated that the action was taken to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation into allegations of administrative misconduct, financial recklessness, and breaches of due process levelled against the suspended officers.
According to the statement, the Governor’s decision followed the recommendations of both the Governing Council and the House of Assembly Committee on Education, which had probed the management crisis rocking the institution.
“The suspension is to allow for an independent and comprehensive investigation without interference from any of the affected officers,” the statement read.
The SSG further disclosed that the Deputy Rector has been directed to act as Rector during the suspension period, while the most senior accountant in the Bursary Department will serve as Acting Bursar.
The development comes amid rising concerns over allegations of financial mismanagement, result racketeering, and disregard for the Governing Council’s authority, which have plagued the institution in recent months.
The Delta State Government reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and institutional integrity, assuring staff and students that the ongoing probe would be handled professionally and fairly to restore confidence in the Polytechnic’s administration.
