Oborevwori Moves to Strengthen Infrastructure Partnership with Julius Berger in Germany
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, will on Tuesday depart Nigeria for Germany on an official working visit aimed at strengthening the state’s infrastructure partnership with construction giant, Julius Berger Plc.
The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this during a press briefing held on Monday in Asaba.
Aniagwu said the governor would be accompanied by himself and the Technical Assistant to the Governor, explaining that the visit is strictly a working mission designed to deepen technical collaboration and secure more favourable project terms for Delta State.
“The purpose of this visit is to strengthen our ongoing partnership with Julius Berger. His Excellency is known for his negotiation skills, and this trip will help us secure better deals and concessions that will benefit the state,” Aniagwu stated.
He emphasised that the visit is not for leisure but part of the administration’s continuous efforts to enhance project delivery, ensure cost efficiency, and accelerate infrastructural growth across the state.
Recalling the state’s previous engagements with international partners, Aniagwu noted that earlier collaborations with China had yielded major infrastructure contracts, including the ₦59 billion Agbor flyover and the ₦39 billion Otovwodo Junction flyover in Ughelli along the Warri–Patani Expressway.
The commissioner further revealed that preparations for the 2026 budget, estimated at ₦1.5 trillion, are underway, with priority areas focusing on capital projects, infrastructure expansion, and social welfare initiatives.
“Following the approval of the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, ministries are currently fine-tuning their submissions ahead of presentation to the State Executive Council,” he added.
Aniagwu also said the governor had directed that all empowerment programmes scheduled to commence next month must be transparent and inclusive across the 25 local government areas of the state.
According to him, the initiative would be coordinated by key ministries and agencies to promote sustainable livelihoods and boost productivity at the grassroots.
He disclosed that the state government would, in the coming weeks, perform groundbreaking ceremonies for several new projects worth billions of naira, including the Otovwodo Junction Flyover, as part of efforts to sustain momentum in infrastructure development.
Aniagwu assured that Governor Oborevwori’s administration remains focused on delivering good governance and will not allow political timelines to slow down ongoing projects.
“The governor has directed all contractors to maintain steady progress on all ongoing works. We are committed to completing what we started and ensuring every project adds value to our people,” he affirmed.
