Condolence Visits: Oborevwori Mourns Nwaoboshi, Ojei, Says Delta Has Lost Rare Leaders
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has described the deaths of former Senator Peter Nwaoboshi and elder statesman Chief Emmanuel Nuel Ojei as deeply painful losses, saying their passing has left gaps that will be difficult to fill in Delta State’s political and community leadership.
The governor made the remarks on Monday during separate condolence visits to the families of the late leaders, where he paid glowing tributes to their character, courage, and lifelong service to Delta State, particularly Delta North, Oshimili North, and Aniocha North Local Government Areas.
At the residence of the late Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, fondly known as “The Oracle,” Oborevwori said the news of his death came as a rude shock, revealing that he had spoken with the former lawmaker just days before his passing.
“I spoke with him only a few days ago. We discussed issues affecting development in the state. I never imagined he would leave us so suddenly,” the governor said.
He described Nwaoboshi as a fearless, outspoken, and principled leader who stood firmly by his beliefs, regardless of pressure or opposition.
“If he was with you, he was completely with you. If not, he would tell you plainly. Leaders like him are rare,” Oborevwori noted.
Reflecting on their long-standing relationship, the governor recalled working closely with Nwaoboshi during the agitation for equity and power rotation in Delta State, especially the struggle for Delta North to produce a governor.
“He was bold, courageous, and unwavering. Once he believed in a cause, nothing could deter him,” he said.
Oborevwori added that he took solace in the fact that some key concerns of the late senator, including the long-standing Guinea House matter, were resolved before his death.
“It is not how long one lives that matters, but the impact made. Senator Nwaoboshi made lasting impact, raised many people, and served Delta State with passion. There is a huge vacuum in Delta North,” he said.
The governor extended his condolences to the widow, Dr. Mrs. Judith Nwaoboshi, the entire Nwaoboshi family, the Anioma nation, and Delta North political family, assuring them of the state government’s continued support.
Responding on behalf of the family, Elder Emmanuel Nwaoboshi thanked the governor for the visit, describing it as a great source of comfort at a difficult time.
In Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area, Oborevwori also mourned the passing of Chief Emmanuel Nuel Ojei, describing him as one of the finest leaders the area ever produced.
He commiserated with the widow, Mrs. Vivian Ojei, her children, and the Ojei family, noting that Chief Ojei was a patient, wise, and deeply respected elder whose counsel remained valuable even after he assumed office as governor.
“Any time I came here, I went straight to see him. He was thoughtful, calm, and always ready to offer guidance,” Oborevwori said.
He recalled consulting the late elder statesman during his governorship campaign, noting that Chief Ojei maintained regular contact with him and remained supportive until his death.
“He lived a fulfilled life and earned respect both within and outside the country. His passing is a painful loss to Aniocha North and Delta State as a whole,” the governor said.
Oborevwori assured the family of the support of the Delta State Government and prayed for peace and unity as preparations begin for the burial of the late elder statesman.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr. Nicholas Ojei, Special Adviser on Special Duties to the Governor and son of the deceased, thanked the governor for the condolence visit, describing it as deeply touching.
“Daddy held you very close to his heart. You were special to him,” he said, adding that his father was a generous man who helped many people quietly without seeking recognition.
He pledged that the family would uphold Chief Ojei’s legacy of service, integrity, and selflessness.
“This loss came suddenly, but we believe he fulfilled his purpose on earth. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” he concluded.
