NIS Announces 48-Hour Maintenance, Warns of Temporary Disruptions on Passport Platform

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced that its Passport Digital Platform will undergo a 48-hour maintenance exercise, a move expected to cause temporary disruptions to passport-related services.

In a public notice released on Friday and signed by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, the agency stated that the maintenance will run from 12:00 a.m. on 12 December to 6:00 a.m. on 14 December 2025 (GMT).

According to the notice, the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to optimise system performance, strengthen security architecture, and improve the overall experience for passport applicants.

“The Nigeria Immigration Service wishes to inform the general public that it is carrying out routine maintenance on its Passport Digital Platform to enhance system performance and overall user experience. During this period, users will experience temporary service interruptions, slow response times, or limited access to selected NIS Passport Services,” the statement read.

The Service appealed for patience and cooperation from applicants, noting that its technical teams are working round the clock to ensure full restoration within the stated timeframe.

Individuals who require support during the downtime have been advised to reach the NIS support team via email at [email protected] or through the Service’s verified social media platforms.

In a related update, the NIS announced on Tuesday that it had activated temporary complaint-response channels on social media following the takedown of some of its support accounts.

The new channels, created to ensure uninterrupted assistance for passport and visa applicants, include three temporary X handles: @InquireAtNaija, @nigimmigration, and @InquireAtNaija_, as well as its Instagram page.
