NECO: 71.63% of Candidates Pass 2025 SSCE External Exams


The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results, recording a 71.63% pass rate.

Announcing the results at the council’s Minna headquarters on Wednesday, Registrar and Chief Executive Prof. Dantani Ibrahim-Wushishi said the exams were conducted from November 26 to December 13, 2025, with marking completed between January 5 and 21, 2026.

According to Prof. Ibrahim-Wushishi, “68,166 candidates, representing 71.63 per cent, obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.” He added that “82,082 candidates, representing 86.26 per cent, obtained five credits and above, irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.”

The exams saw 96,979 candidates registered, including 51,823 males (53.43%) and 45,156 females (46.56%). Of these, 95,160 candidates sat for the exams.

In subject-specific results, 93,425 candidates sat for English Language, with 73,167 (78.32%) scoring credit and above, while 93,330 candidates sat for Mathematics, with 85,256 (91.35%) achieving credit and above.

Highlighting examination integrity, Prof. Ibrahim-Wushishi disclosed that 9,016 candidates were booked for malpractice, a 31.7% increase from 2024. He said, “Five supervisors were recommended for blacklisting for aiding and abetting malpractice,” and four centres faced derecognition over whole-centre malpractice.

The registrar advised candidates to check results online at www.neco.gov.ng using their examination registration numbers.

Additionally, NECO released the 2026 Automated Staff Posting Calendar (APC), allowing staff to check postings online via https://apcic.neco.gov.ng/myapc. Prof. Ibrahim-Wushishi explained, “Staff postings would now be randomised, and staff could access their posting status online using their date of birth and file number without the prefix ‘P’.”
