MultiChoice Slashes DStv Decoder Price By 50%

MultiChoice Nigeria has slashed the price of its DStv decoder by 50%, reducing the cost from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000, in a bid to reverse a significant decline in subscriptions.

The move is part of the company’s new “We Got You” campaign, aimed at making premium content more accessible and showcasing the diversity of its offerings.

According to MultiChoice Nigeria CEO, John Ugbe, “We want to ensure our customers feel appreciated and have access to the best entertainment every day. The ‘We Got You’ campaign is about making premium content more accessible and showing that DStv offers something for everyone, not just football fans.”

The campaign also highlights the platform’s diverse content, including drama, movies, kids’ programming, and news, encouraging viewers to explore beyond sports.

To further incentivize subscribers, MultiChoice is offering a limited-time promotion: from June 16 to July 31, 2025, subscribers who pay in full for their current package will receive a free upgrade to the next package tier.

The price adjustment and promotional offer are part of MultiChoice’s efforts to respond to Nigeria’s economic challenges.

The company has faced significant subscriber losses, shedding 1.4 million users between March 2023 and March 2025, largely due to the economic downturn and repeated price hikes.

In the past year alone, MultiChoice has increased prices on its DStv and GOtv packages three times.

By reducing the decoder price and offering exclusive promotions, MultiChoice aims to win back customers and demonstrate its commitment to providing value to its subscribers.
