Konate Leaves Liverpool After Contract Talks Collapse

France international Ibrahima Konate is set to leave Liverpool FC after failing to agree a new contract with the Premier League side.

Liverpool confirmed that the 27-year-old defender will depart the club when his contract expires this summer, bringing an end to his five-year spell at Anfield.

Konate joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 and became a key figure in the club’s defence, forming a strong partnership with captain Virgil van Dijk.

“Liverpool FC can confirm Ibrahima Konate is set to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer,” the club said in a statement.

Reports indicate that negotiations over a contract extension broke down over wage-related issues despite earlier optimism that a deal would be reached.

In an emotional farewell message, Konate thanked supporters and expressed disappointment at not getting the chance to properly say goodbye to fans.

“Anfield is truly a special place, and playing in front of you was something I never took for granted,” he said.

During his time at Liverpool, Konate won the Premier League title, two League Cups, the FA Cup, and the Community Shield, while also helping the club reach the UEFA Champions League final in 2022.

His departure adds to a growing list of high-profile exits from Liverpool this season and is expected to intensify speculation over his next destination, with several European clubs reportedly monitoring his situation.
