Gov Umo Eno Raises NYSC Allowance to ₦20k, Orders Camp Upgrade
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved a significant increase in the monthly state allowance paid to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state, from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000.
The governor made the announcement on Friday, July 4, 2025, during the second day of the state delivery meeting held at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Uyo.
He noted that the decision was aimed at complementing the Federal Government’s ₦77,000 monthly allowance, enabling corps members to meet their essential needs.
“Over 10,000 corps members are posted to Akwa Ibom annually. We must continue to encourage and support them,” Eno said.
The announcement comes on the heels of the governor’s recent approval for the reconstruction of the NYSC orientation camp at Ikot Itie Idung in Nsit Atai Local Government Area. The project is part of ongoing initiatives to enhance the welfare and living conditions of corps members in the state.
Established in 1973, the NYSC is a mandatory one-year national service scheme for Nigerian graduates under the age of 30. Designed to promote unity and national integration, the programme deploys participants to states outside their regions of origin to contribute to key sectors including education, healthcare, agriculture, and rural development.
