Behind The Scenes Smashes ₦2bn Box Office Mark

Nollywood superstar Funke Akindele has etched her name into African cinema history as her latest film, Behind The Scenes, crossed the historic ₦2 billion box office mark, becoming the first Nollywood production ever to achieve the feat.

The record-breaking milestone was confirmed by distributor FilmOne Entertainment, which announced that the film has now grossed approximately ₦2.1 billion in ticket sales across cinemas in Nigeria and other territories.

With this achievement, Behind The Scenes has overtaken previous box office heavyweights to emerge as the highest-grossing Nigerian film of 2025 and one of the most successful Nollywood titles of all time.

The landmark success further cements Funke Akindele’s dominance in the industry, as she now stands as Africa’s highest-grossing filmmaker, writer, director, and producer in West African cinema history.

Industry analysts also note that this marks the third consecutive year a Funke Akindele-led film has topped the box office, underscoring her unmatched commercial appeal and influence within the African film space.

Behind The Scenes tells the story of Aderonke “Ronky Fella” Faniran, a successful entrepreneur whose generosity and personal sacrifices push her to emotional limits while testing her family relationships.

The film boasts a star-studded ensemble cast including Scarlet Gomez, Funke Akindele, Tobi Bakre, Uzor Arukwe, Destiny Etiko, Iyabo Ojo, Ini Dima-Okojie, Uche Montana, Ibrahim Chatta, and Mr Macaroni.

Its record-setting run included breaking several box office benchmarks, notably recording one of the highest single-day grosses on Boxing Day, and sustaining strong audience turnout well into the new year.

Celebrating the milestone, FilmOne Entertainment noted that the success of Behind The Scenes reflects strong audience loyalty, positive word-of-mouth, and a growing appetite for high-quality Nigerian cinema.
