French Minister Moves to Block Kanye West Concert in Marseille
France’s interior minister is seeking to block a planned concert by Kanye West in Marseille, citing concerns over the rapper’s past antisemitic remarks.
According to reports, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez is exploring “all possibilities” to prevent the June 11 performance at the Velodrome stadium in the southern French city.
A source close to the minister said he is “highly determined” to stop the concert from going ahead, amid ongoing controversy surrounding the artist’s public statements.
West, also known as Ye, has faced widespread backlash in recent years over antisemitic comments and expressions of admiration for Adolf Hitler, which have led to growing calls across Europe to restrict his performances.
The move in France follows similar actions elsewhere. The United Kingdom recently blocked the rapper from entering the country, resulting in the cancellation of a major music festival he was scheduled to headline.
Local opposition in Marseille has also intensified, with city officials previously indicating that the controversial artist is not welcome to perform.
Despite the mounting backlash, West has continued to plan performances across Europe, though his appearances remain under scrutiny amid concerns over public order and the impact of his past remarks.
The situation underscores the growing intersection between entertainment and politics, as European authorities weigh artistic freedom against public sensitivity and security considerations.
