FIFA U-20: Flying Eagles Advance to Round of 16, Face Argentina Next
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have advanced to the Round of 16 at the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile after holding Colombia to a thrilling 1–1 draw in Talca on Monday morning.
Colombia struck first in the 51st minute through Kener Gonzalez, but Nigeria showed resilience, fighting back to equalize late in the match. Captain Daniel Bameyi confidently converted a penalty after Tahir Maigana’s shot was handled inside the box.
Goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt delivered a standout performance, making several crucial saves to keep Nigeria in contention. Meanwhile, Maigana, Kparobo Arierhi, and Suleman Sani all came close to finding the net during a dominant second half for the Flying Eagles.
With the draw, Nigeria booked a place in the Round of 16, where they will face Argentina on Wednesday at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago. The encounter will be a highly anticipated rematch of last year’s quarter-final clash, which Nigeria won 2–0.
Elsewhere, Norway also sealed qualification after a 1–1 draw with Saudi Arabia.
