EPL: Arsenal Open Contract Talks with Jurrien Timber
Arsenal have opened contract talks with defender Jurrien Timber as they look to secure his long-term future at the Emirates Stadium.
The Dutch international has impressed since recovering from a serious knee injury and has become a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
According to a report from PUNCH on Friday, discussions are still at an early stage, but all parties are eager to reach an agreement that will extend Timber’s stay in North London beyond his current deal, which runs until 2028.
Timber, 24, joined Arsenal from Ajax in the summer of 2023 for £34.4 million. However, his debut season was disrupted after he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the opening Premier League game against Nottingham Forest.
Despite that setback, he bounced back strongly, making 51 appearances in the 2024/25 season and has continued his fine form this term. He has now cemented his place as Arteta’s first-choice right-back, contributing significantly to Arsenal’s strong start to the campaign.
The Gunners are also working on new deals for other key players. Talks are ongoing with England winger Bukayo Saka over a long-term extension, with optimism that an agreement will be reached soon. Meanwhile, central defender William Saliba has already committed his future by signing a new five-year contract.
Arsenal’s focus on tying down its top talents highlights the club’s ambition to remain competitive in the Premier League and European competitions.
