Emergency Asagba-in-Council Meeting Bans Iron Condemn Vendors, Tackles Drug Abuse

HRM, Asagba Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge SAN OON FNIALS FICMC LLD(HC) KSJI KSG convened an emergency Asagba-in-Council meeting today at Ogwa-Uku Ahaba, addressing key issues on insecurity, drug abuse, iron condemn vendors, and the Anioma State agenda.

The meeting commenced at exactly 1:08 pm with an opening prayer and traditional protocols. HRM Asagba Azinge welcomed all present, appreciating the massive turnout despite the short notice. The minutes of the last meeting were adjourned for a future session. A minute of silence was observed in honour of the late Obi Chief Peter Nwanze Oduah, Odogwu Ahaba.

HRM Azinge highlighted the recent insecurity in Asaba, particularly around Koka and Abraka, and condemned the murder of Late Justice Ifeoma Okogwu in her residence. “Peace is paramount in Asaba Kingdom and it is the greatest industry the community is enjoying today and won’t be compromised for any reason under my watch,” he stressed.

Following a security meeting at his palace with relevant agencies, HRM Azinge announced decisive measures:

  • Evacuation of all iron condemn dump sites in Asaba with immediate effect.
  • Total ban on iron condemn vendors in Asaba.

He mandated Ogbueshi Uche Nwajei, Onoi Ahaba, and Ogbueshi Nnamdi Chukwuedo, ACV Chairman, to enforce these regulations, urging ndi Okpala Ukwu yet to form vigilante groups in their quarters to do so immediately.

Addressing land disputes, HRM Azinge criticized the practice of reselling the same land to multiple buyers. He warned, “Even if the culprit found guilty of such an act is a high-ranking chief, he will be derobed before the Asagba-in-Council.” He also condemned the resurgence of drug barons, noting that the new rehab center for addicts is almost ready, and promised swift raids.

HRM Azinge also recommended enhanced security measures in Koka/Akwuofor, including a police post and the formation of an internal security network. He highlighted the Asaba market at Oko Road as a hotspot for criminal activities, to be managed by the Local Government. “Koka needs to be illuminated at night,” he said, noting that 2,000 solar lights have been approved in principle by the Rural Electrification Project for Koka and parts of Ime-Ogbe.

Responding to concerns, Obi Onyemanaogeme Ajufoh and Obi Nwajei emphasized the need for additional security agency support to enforce overnight truck parking bans and land monitoring. Ogbueshi Ifeanyi Iyio suggested recruiting extra manpower for ACV if necessary.

On Anioma State, HRM Azinge clarified that while he supports its creation, he prefers it remain within the Southsouth region. He condemned misinformation suggesting otherwise. Chief Peter Onwusanya outlined the Council’s resolutions:

  • Anioma State is supported but not in the SouthEast.
  • Proponents promised the SouthEast the capital, which is unacceptable.

  • A press conference will follow the meeting.
  • Youths will hold a peaceful protest on 1st December 2025 at 8 am starting from Inter-Bau roundabout.
