Delta Police Arrest Popular Asaba Content Creator Over Alleged Rape Linked to 20-Year-Old Girl’s Death
The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a popular Asaba-based content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” in connection with the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman identified as Favour Agbro, whose death is currently under investigation.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect is in police custody as investigations continue.
According to the police, the 40-year-old suspect allegedly invited the victim to Asaba under the pretext of teaching her content creation and helping her build a career in digital media.
Human rights activist Israel Joe, who disclosed the development on social media, alleged that the deceased travelled from Ughelli to Asaba after the content creator promised to train her on how to monetize her TikTok and Facebook platforms.
According to Joe, the young woman had contacted the content creator after seeing his online advertisements claiming to mentor young people on growing their social media presence and earning income from digital content.
The activist alleged that after arriving in Asaba, the woman was invited to meet the content creator at a hotel under the pretext of receiving the promised training.
Joe further alleged that despite informing the suspect through WhatsApp conversations that she was a virgin and was not interested in any romantic relationship, she was sexually assaulted.
According to the activist, the woman later contacted her twin sister and mother, informing them of the incident before returning home.
He further claimed that the deceased initially sought help from another activist but was allegedly discouraged from pursuing the matter after being told that the suspect was influential.
Joe alleged that the emotional trauma that followed eventually led the young woman to die by suicide after reportedly ingesting a poisonous substance.
The activist also claimed that the suspect was arrested following a complaint he lodged with the police.
According to him, investigators confronted the suspect with alleged WhatsApp conversations exchanged with the deceased as part of their investigation.
Joe further alleged that during questioning, he asked the suspect why he allegedly intimidated the woman by telling her that no one could hold him accountable.
The case has generated widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians calling for a thorough investigation and justice for the deceased.
The Delta State Police Command said the suspect remains in custody and that investigations are ongoing to establish all the circumstances surrounding the allegations and the victim’s death.
The police urged members of the public to avoid speculation and allow investigators to conclude their work, assuring that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
