Delta Police Arrest Four Officers Caught in Viral Video Counting Money
The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four police personnel filmed in a viral video counting bundles of cash inside a patrol vehicle.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, said the officers, including two senior officers and two inspectors, were immediately identified and apprehended after the video sparked nationwide outrage.
“The policemen in the embarrassing video have been identified and arrested. They appeared before the Commissioner of Police today,” Edafe disclosed.
He further explained that while the two senior officers have been queried, the two inspectors have been detained and are awaiting an orderly room trial to face disciplinary action.
The video, which circulated widely on social media, showed the policemen seated in a patrol van, casually counting bundles of money—a scene that generated anger among Nigerians who accused them of extortion and misconduct.
Edafe had earlier assured members of the public that the Command would take decisive action against the erring officers to restore confidence in the police.
The Delta Police Command reiterated its commitment to upholding professionalism, accountability, and integrity within its ranks, assuring that disciplinary measures will serve as a deterrent to others.
