Delta Police Charge 455 Cases to Court, Bust Drug and Human Trafficking Syndicates
The Delta State Police Command has charged 455 cases to court and successfully prosecuted 205 cases between January 2026 and date, while 250 cases remain pending before various courts across the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, disclosed this during a press briefing in Asaba, noting that the command remains committed to intelligence-driven policing and sustained operations against crime and criminality.
“We will leave no stone unturned in the fight against crime and criminality,” he stated.
The command also recorded major breakthroughs in drug trafficking and human trafficking cases across the state.
In one of the operations, operatives intercepted a commercial bus along the Onicha-Ugbo/Ewohimi road and recovered 490 grams of suspected cocaine, four grams of suspected loud, and cannabis concealed inside energy-saving bulbs. The illicit substances were allegedly being transported to Abuja for distribution.
In a separate case, two suspected human traffickers were arrested following a disturbing report involving a 19-year-old victim allegedly trafficked to Ivory Coast.
Investigations revealed that the victim was recruited under false pretences and later subjected to illegal medical procedures abroad, where her womb was allegedly removed without consent before she was abandoned in Nigeria.
The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
