Davido Picks Omah Lay, Rema, Asake as Afrobeats Stars to Watch

Afrobeats superstar Davido has named Omah Lay, Rema, and Asake as the artistes he believes are shaping the next era of Nigerian music and are worth watching closely.

The multiple award-winning singer made the remarks on Wednesday during a live Twitch interview with comedian Carter Efe, clips of which quickly went viral across social media platforms.

Asked to identify the next generation of standout Afrobeats stars, Davido singled out the trio for their exceptional talent, consistency, and growing influence in the industry.

“Right now, for me, I say between Asake, Omah Lay, or Rema. If you ask me, I think they’ve done exceptionally well,” he said.

Clarifying his focus on male artistes, Davido also acknowledged the rising female stars in the industry. “Obviously, we have Tems, Ayra Starr, stuff like that. I’m talking about males. Those three are killing it,” he added.

Speaking warmly about the trio, Davido emphasised their growing global presence and international appeal. “Omah Lay, obviously, my brother. Rema, love him so much. Asake, have so much love for him as well. They’re all doing amazingly well,” he said.

The singer further noted the impact of their music on global audiences, highlighting the challenges and opportunities of taking Afrobeats beyond Nigeria’s borders. “Especially like globally. Like it’s just amazing to just be in America and see them. You know what I’m saying. It is not easy o,” he added.

Widely regarded as one of Afrobeats’ most influential figures, Davido has consistently emphasised the importance of legacy and supporting the next generation. His comments come amid ongoing debates over who will define the next era of greatness in Nigerian music, particularly as Afrobeats continues to dominate international charts, festivals, and award platforms.

With rising stars like Omah Lay, Rema, and Asake making waves both locally and globally, Davido’s endorsement highlights the talent poised to shape the future of the genre.
