Court Remands Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, and 12 Others Over Abuja Protest

A Magistrate Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the remand of Nnamdi Kanu’s counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, and twelve others who were arrested during a protest led by activist Omoyele Sowore on Monday over the continued trial and detention of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader.

The protesters, who converged on the Federal Capital Territory to demand Kanu’s release, were dispersed by security operatives before being arrested and charged to court.

According to the charge sheet, the police accused Ejimakor and the 12 others of criminal conspiracy, disobedience to lawful order, inciting disturbance, and public nuisance, offences said to be in violation of Sections 152, 114, and 113 of the Penal Code Law.

Among those charged alongside Ejimakor is Emmanuel Kanu, the younger brother of the detained IPOB leader.

Presiding Magistrate ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending their arraignment slated for October 24, 2025.

The court’s decision has generated reactions from human rights advocates, who described the arrests as an infringement on the constitutional right to peaceful assembly.
However, the police maintained that the protest breached public order and violated existing restrictions around sensitive government premises.

Ejimakor, who also serves as a legal representative for IPOB, had been vocal about what he described as “continuous persecution” of his client, Nnamdi Kanu, and repeated disobedience of court orders granting him bail.

The case will continue on October 24, when the accused persons are expected to take their pleas.
