Court Bars Ogun Govt From Demolishing Gbenga Daniel’s Residences

A High Court in the Sagamu Judicial Division of Ogun State has issued an interim order restraining the state government from demolishing or interfering with properties belonging to former governor and serving senator, Gbenga Daniel.

The order, granted ex parte, came after Daniel and his wife, Olufunke, filed an affidavit of urgency seeking the court’s intervention.

In suit number HCS/371/2025, Justice O.S. Oloyede ruled that immediate action was necessary to protect the claimants’ interests pending the determination of the substantive suit. The court barred the defendants, their agents, allies, and any persons acting on their behalf from enforcing the quit notice issued on August 8, 2025, demolishing the buildings, or interfering with the Daniels’ possession of the properties.

The court also prohibited any form of trespass or disturbance until the hearing of the application for an interlocutory injunction, which is scheduled for August 19, 2025.

The legal battle follows the Ogun State Government’s alleged plan to demolish Daniel’s Asoludero residence and Conference Hotel in Sagamu Local Government Area under the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022.

Daniel, who represents Ogun East in the Senate, accused the government of acting with political motives and ignoring due process, arguing that the properties were built before the law came into force.

In response, Governor Dapo Abiodun’s spokesman, Kayode Akinmade, said Daniel was “not above the law,” insisting he was served the necessary notices but failed to produce his planning permit and land title for verification. Akinmade described Daniel’s reaction as “cheap blackmail,” urging him to comply with lawful directives.
