‘My Mom Said Never to Settle with a Jobless Woman’ — Chike
Popular Nigerian singer Chike has opened up about a piece of life advice his mother once gave him and it’s catching attention online.
In a recent appearance on the Ada’s Room podcast, the award-winning artiste said his mom warned him never to settle down with a woman who doesn’t have a job, no matter how much he loves her.
According to Chike, his mother emphasised the value of choosing a partner who is productive and has a source of livelihood, rather than someone without financial independence. “Personally, my mum advised me never to settle down with a woman who doesn’t have a source of livelihood regardless of love,” he said during the chat.
The 33-year-old singer, known for hits like If You No Love and his inspiring journey from The Voice Nigeria, explained that his mum also warned against “baggage” that could come from family responsibilities if a partner isn’t self-sufficient.
Chike added that he now often considers a woman’s productivity and family background before moving into a serious relationship. His message to men was clear: think beyond just physical attraction and choose partners who add value to life and future plans.
The singer’s comments have stirred conversation about relationship priorities, career expectations and how family values influence choices in love and marriage, especially among young Nigerians.
