Chelsea Abandon Pursuit of AC Milan Goalkeeper Mike Maignan
Chelsea Football Club has reportedly ended its pursuit of AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan due to a valuation dispute.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League side was unwilling to meet Milan’s asking price, which included a premium tied to the upcoming Club World Cup.
“Mike Maignan deal now OFF between Chelsea and AC Milan. Chelsea not willing to meet Milan price, deal not proceeding in time for Club World Cup as #CFC won’t pay ‘CWC tax’,” Romano reported.
With the deal collapsed, Chelsea will rely on its current goalkeeping roster. Romano noted that the club “maintain full trust in Petrović, Sánchez, Jorgensen + talent Mike Penders for GK role.”
The decision means Maignan will not join Chelsea ahead of the global tournament.
