British Man Survives Deadly Air India Crash, recounts Incident
A British passenger has survived the devastating Air India crash that killed over 200 people, according to local police in India.
Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik told Indian news agency ANI that the lone survivor was seated in 11A aboard the ill-fated Boeing 787-8, which was en route to London’s Gatwick Airport.
Flight records identify the passenger as British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh. Indian media reported speaking with Mr. Ramesh from his hospital bed, where he shared a chilling account of the crash.
“Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed,” he recalled. “It all happened so quickly.”
According to reports, Mr. Ramesh also shared a photo of his boarding pass, confirming his name and seat number.
Commissioner Malik confirmed to ANI that the survivor “has been in the hospital and is under treatment.”
Air India stated that the aircraft was carrying 230 people, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian. The plane reportedly crashed into residential quarters for medical staff less than a minute after take-off.
