BREAKING: FG Raises Nigerian Passport Fees to N100,000, N200,000

The Federal Government has approved a new increase in the cost of obtaining Nigerian passports, effective September 1, 2025.

In a statement, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), A.S. Akinlabi, confirmed that the fee for the 32-page passport with five-year validity will now cost ₦100,000, while the 64-page passport with ten-year validity has been fixed at ₦200,000.

The NIS explained that the new rates apply only to applications made within Nigeria, while fees for Nigerians in the diaspora remain unchanged. Applicants abroad will continue to pay $150 for a 32-page passport (5 years) and $230 for a 64-page passport (10 years).

According to the Immigration Service, the adjustment was necessary to preserve the quality, security, and integrity of the Nigerian passport, while also improving service delivery.

This latest development comes less than a year after the Federal Government approved a similar review in August 2024, which took effect on September 1, 2024. At that time, the cost of the 32-page passport increased from ₦35,000 to ₦50,000, while the 64-page, 10-year passport rose from ₦70,000 to ₦100,000.

The Nigeria Immigration Service stressed that the current review was introduced to maintain international standards and meet the demands of modern, technology-driven passports.
