BREAKING NEWS: APC Clears Tinubu Without Screening Ahead of Primaries, Cites ‘Special Circumstances
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has waived the screening requirement for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, effectively clearing him to participate in the party’s upcoming primary elections.
The decision was reached during the party’s 188th NWC meeting held on May 6, 2026, where the committee invoked provisions of the APC Constitution to grant the waiver under what it described as “special circumstances.”
In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the NWC said the move aligns with its constitutional powers to organize and supervise primaries, including granting waivers in the best interest of the party.
According to the statement, the President has already secured widespread endorsement from key party stakeholders, including the Progressive Governors Forum, members of the National Assembly, and other APC organs.
“The President has received overwhelming endorsement and vote of confidence from critical stakeholders of the Party,” the statement noted.
The party further argued that requiring Tinubu to undergo another screening process would be unnecessary, given that he had already been screened and cleared ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries.
“As the incumbent President and leader of the Party… requiring his physical appearance before a screening committee at this time would be redundant,” the NWC stated.
The development signals growing internal consolidation within the APC ahead of the next round of party primaries, with the President positioned as a central figure in the party’s electoral strategy.
