Anambra State Recovers 10 Oil Wells from Delta

Anambra State Government says it has recovered ten oil wells previously credited to Delta State, a development expected to boost its oil revenue if verified by the Revenue Mobilisation Commission (RMC).

Professor Charles Ofoegbu, Managing Director of the Anambra State Solid Mineral Development Company and Chairman of Anambra State Petroleum Energy Resources Limited, disclosed the update in Awka while speaking to the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS).

According to Ofoegbu, once the RMC approves the verification report on the oil wells located along the Anambra–Delta maritime boundary, the state will begin receiving additional revenue from the recovered assets.

The state government is also partnering with foreign investors to establish a modular refinery in Osamala, Ogbaru Local Government Area. The facility is expected to produce petroleum and diesel for Anambra and neighbouring states, generating further income.

Ofoegbu said the government is working to recover a substantial number of oil wells currently contested by Imo, Delta, Rivers and Enugu states due to boundary disputes, a move that could significantly increase Anambra’s 13% oil derivation share from the Federal Government.

He also revealed plans to open a kaolin mining site at Ukpor in Nnewi South LGA, which will generate additional revenue, and to establish a bentonite processing plant in Achalagu, Nteje, noting that raw bentonite materials are found in Umuchu and Ufuma. Bentonite, widely used in the oil industry, is expected to further expand the state’s revenue base.

Ofoegbu noted that revenue from the oil sector has contributed “immensely to the spectacular performance of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in all sectors, including the construction of Solution Fun City.”
