Anambra Police Warn VeryDarkMan Against Breach of Peace Over Candlelight Protest
The Anambra State Police Command has issued a stern warning to social media influencer Mr Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, over plans that could potentially threaten public peace in the state.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Awka, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the warning followed Otse’s intention to hold a candlelight procession in memory of Mr Ifesinachi Onyekere, the former Managing Director of Fish Magnet outlet, who was recently abducted and killed by suspected gunmen.
Otse had claimed the event was meant to draw attention to the deteriorating security situation in Anambra State. However, the police cautioned him against making inflammatory statements or taking actions capable of inciting unrest.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra, CP Ikioye Orutugu, emphasized that the family of the late Onyekere had publicly dissociated itself from any planned or ongoing memorial events in his name.
“The family has requested privacy as they grieve, and they trust law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to justice,” the statement read.
CP Orutugu reiterated that Anambra remains one of the most peaceful states in the region, thanks to the sustained efforts of security agencies and key stakeholders.
He warned that no individual, regardless of their social influence, would be allowed to disrupt the state’s peace and security.
The police command urged residents to continue their normal activities without fear, assuring them of its unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order.
The statement also advised social media users and public figures to act responsibly by avoiding the spread of misinformation or inciting comments that could cause tension or disrupt public peace.
“Anyone found guilty of breaching the peace, online or offline, will face the full consequences of the law,” Ikenga warned.
