Viral Video Suggesting Atiku’s 2027 Presidential Bid Is Old – Aide

Paul Ibe, media adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed claims that the ex-Presidential candidate is planning to run for president in 2027.

This follows the circulation of a viral video on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where Atiku is reportedly heard saying he would soon make a “formal announcement” regarding his political future.

The video has fueled speculation among political observers that the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate intends to contest again in 2027.

However, Ibe, in a statement issued on Friday, described the interpretation of the video as misleading, stating that the footage was originally recorded in 2022, ahead of the PDP presidential primary for the 2023 elections.

“Atiku’s old video is being used for mischief. Yes, this was former Vice President of Nigeria (1999–2007), Atiku Abubakar, speaking to journalists ahead of the 2023 PDP presidential primary,” Ibe explained.

He said Atiku’s confident tone in the video was typical of a candidate preparing for a major political contest.

“He sounded confident because that is what is expected of a man who had worked hard and was optimistic of victory in the primaries of the 2023 election,” Ibe added.

He cautioned the public to disregard any claims that the video is linked to a new presidential ambition, warning against deliberate attempts to distort the facts for political mischief.

“It is important to provide the context of this video to deprive mischief makers of the opportunity of misrepresenting what this video is all about,” he stated.
