UK to Raise Visa Fees for Visitors, Workers, Students from April 8

The UK Home Office has announced an increase in visa fees affecting visitors, students, workers, and migrants, with the new charges set to take effect from April 8, 2026.

According to official figures released by the Home Office, the revised fees will apply across most immigration routes, with costs rising across visit, study, work, and settlement categories.

Under the new structure, a standard six-month visitor visa will increase from £127 to £135, while student visa fees will rise from £524 to £558.

Work visa categories are also affected, including the widely used Skilled Worker visa, which will see higher application costs depending on the duration of stay.

The fee adjustments are part of a broader update that impacts nearly all immigration and nationality applications, with most increases averaging between 6–7 percent, according to official guidance.

The changes come as the UK continues to review its immigration system, with authorities stating that the increases are necessary to support administrative costs and system improvements.

For many applicants, including Nigerians who form a significant portion of UK visa seekers, the new fees are expected to raise the overall cost of travel, study, and relocation plans.

The updated fee schedule covers a wide range of categories, from short-term visit visas to permanent residency and citizenship applications, with only a few exceptions where fees remain unchanged or reduced.
