Tottenham Hit with £75,000 Fine for Fan Misconduct
Tottenham Hotspur has been fined £75,000 by the Football Association (FA) for crowd control breaches during their Premier League match against Manchester United on September 29, 2024.
The FA announced the penalty in a statement released on Thursday.
According to the FA, Tottenham failed to ensure their spectators and supporters conducted themselves in an orderly fashion, refraining from improper, offensive, abusive, indecent, or insulting behavior, particularly with reference to sexual orientation. The incidents occurred around the 49th and 79th minutes of the match.
Tottenham admitted to both breaches of FA Rule E21 and initially faced a £150,000 fine, an action plan, and a formal warning imposed by an independent Regulatory Commission. However, following an appeal, an independent Appeal Board reduced the fine to £75,000.
The FA stated, “Tottenham Hotspur FC admitted both charges, and an independent Regulatory Commission imposed an action plan, £150,000 fine and warning. An independent Appeal Board reduced the fine to £75,000 following an appeal by the club.”
The FA has published the written reasons for both the Regulatory Commission’s and Appeal Board’s decisions, providing further details on the events surrounding the misconduct.
This disciplinary action highlights the FA’s ongoing efforts to enforce anti-discrimination protocols and crowd control standards in English football.
