Ruben Dias Extends Manchester City Contract Until 2029
Ruben Dias has committed his long-term future to Manchester City by signing a new contract that runs until 2029.
According to BBC Sports, the 28-year-old defender’s previous deal was set to expire in 2027. However, the new agreement adds two more years, keeping him at the Etihad for the next six seasons, with an option for an additional year.
Dias joined Manchester City from Benfica in 2020 for £65 million and has since become a cornerstone of Pep Guardiola’s defense. In his debut season, he was named Premier League Player of the Year and has gone on to play a key role in the club’s domestic and European dominance.
Over the past five years, the Portugal international has helped City win four Premier League titles, the Champions League, the EFL Cup, and the FA Cup.
Speaking on the extension, Dias expressed his delight:
“I am incredibly happy today. I love Manchester it is my home now and I love the Manchester City fans. When I think about the trophies we have won and how we have played our football during my time here, I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else.”
Manchester City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, praised the defender’s influence both on and off the pitch, describing him as “a leader in the dressing room and on the pitch.”
Meanwhile, City is expected to focus on contract renewals for John Stones and Bernardo Silva, who each have one year left on their deals. Ilkay Gundogan and Ederson also have less than 12 months remaining, while Rodri, Phil Foden, Manuel Akanji, and Nathan Ake are under contract for another two years. Young defender Rico Lewis is also close to agreeing on a new five-year deal.
This contract renewal solidifies Dias’ status as one of the most vital players in City’s long-term project under Pep Guardiola.
