Police To Tighten Security at JAMB Centres Nationwide
The Nigeria Police Force has deployed additional security personnel across examination centres nationwide ahead of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The move, according to the police, is aimed at ensuring a safe and hitch-free conduct of the examination, which is scheduled to commence on April 16.
In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, dismissed circulating rumours of threats to candidates’ safety, describing them as unfounded.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to categorically state that these claims are without basis.”
He explained that despite the rumours, the police had taken proactive steps to guarantee security at all centres nationwide.
“To this end, extra security has been deployed at examination centres nationwide, both overtly and covertly, to prevent any untoward incidents.”
The deployment includes routine patrols, perimeter surveillance, and rapid response teams positioned at strategic locations to respond swiftly to any emergencies.
The police also confirmed collaboration with other security agencies to monitor potential threats and ensure a coordinated response throughout the examination period.
Candidates have been advised to arrive early at their centres, adhere strictly to examination guidelines, and report any suspicious activity to security personnel on ground.
The Force further cautioned the public against spreading unverified information, urging reliance on official updates from authorities.
The 2026 UTME is expected to run from April 16 to April 25 across hundreds of accredited centres nationwide, with security agencies on high alert to maintain order and public confidence.
