Osimhen, Salah, Hakimi Make Final Shortlist for 2025 CAF Player of the Year
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been officially shortlisted among the top nominees for the 2025 CAF Player of the Year Award, alongside some of Africa’s biggest football stars.
Egyptian and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah and Moroccan defender Achraf Hakimi of Paris Saint-Germain also made the star-studded list, solidifying their dominance on the African and global football stage.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) released the nominees on Thursday, highlighting outstanding players, coaches, national teams, and clubs across different categories.
According to CAF:“The impact of players and coaches on the African and global game has been immense for the period under consideration of 6 January to 15 October 2025, and these nominations reflect those who have made major contributions to football on the continent.”
CAF confirmed that the shortlisting was conducted by a panel of experts including members of the CAF Technical & Development Committee, former football legends, experienced coaches, and select media professionals.
Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, was also nominated in the Goalkeeper of the Year category.
The award ceremony is expected to draw massive attention as fans across Africa eagerly await to see who will be crowned the continent’s best footballer.
