2027: Omo-Agege Dumps APC, Says ‘I Won’t Be a Sitting Duck’

A major political realignment may be unfolding in Delta State following the resignation of former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Omo-Agege announced his resignation in a statement released through his media aide, Sunday Areh, declaring that his exit from the ruling party takes immediate effect.

The development is already sending shockwaves across Delta political circles ahead of the 2027 elections, especially within Delta Central where the former senator remains a strong political force.

According to the statement, Omo-Agege said the decision followed extensive consultations with political associates, supporters and stakeholders over recent developments within the APC in Delta State.

The former lawmaker stated that remaining in the party would no longer allow him to effectively pursue the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria.

“I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria,” he declared.

Omo-Agege also expressed appreciation to the APC for the opportunity given to him to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate, while officially requesting that his name be removed from all party membership records and communication platforms.

“I thank the APC for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate. I wish the party well and have requested that my name be removed from all membership records, registers, and communication lists,” he said.

Though the former Delta APC governorship candidate did not immediately disclose his next political destination, he maintained that his commitment to development, effective representation and the advancement of Delta Central remains unchanged.

Political observers believe the resignation could trigger fresh alignments and defections within Delta politics, particularly as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
