Oluremi Tinubu Empowers 400 Farmers in Delta Through Renewed Hope Initiative
As part of efforts to boost agriculture and food production in Nigeria, the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, through her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), has empowered 400 farmers in Delta State.
At the event, which was held at the Dome Event Center, Asaba, on Tuesday, May 14, 2025, female farmers, student farmers, youths, and farm cooperatives in the state received farm inputs and financial grants to support their agricultural ventures.
Represented by the Wife of the Governor of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, Senator Oluremi Tinubu said the initiative was a vital step toward addressing food insecurity and improving household incomes through farming.
“It is joyful to see women, young farmers in secondary schools, the youth, and cooperatives getting acquainted with farming,” she stated, emphasizing that the ‘Every Home a Garden’ initiative would ease economic hardship by encouraging families to grow their own food.
She added, “Growing your own food can help you eat healthier, promote a better diet, and supply fresh, healthy produce. The earth is blessed for our sake, when you plant, it germinates and brings a great harvest.”
Deaconess Oborevwori’s remarks delivered by Lady Catherine Onyeme, wife of the Deputy Governor, underscored the broader impact of the empowerment initiative.
She said, “Empowering farmers is not just an intervention—it is a necessity. It is about restoring hope, fostering food security, boosting household incomes, and encouraging them to see farming as a viable business that can transform lives and uplift communities.”
She expressed appreciation to Senator Tinubu for her visionary leadership and commitment to agricultural development under the RHI, describing the support as a “stepping stone to greater achievements.”
Commissioner for Agriculture in Delta State, Hon. Val Areyenka, praised the initiative, saying, “Anybody and everybody can be a farmer. With the governor’s vision that each person should produce 50% of what they consume, this support is a welcome development.”
Also speaking, Commissioner for Youth Development, Thankgod Trakiriowei, commended the inclusion of youths, stating the starter packs will encourage youth participation in agriculture and contribute to economic growth and self-reliance.
From the education sector, Justina Eshang, representing the Commissioner for Secondary Education, aligned the initiative with ministry efforts to promote agricultural awareness among students. She urged all stakeholders to replicate the collaboration seen at the event.
Concluding her remarks on a personal note, Senator Tinubu shared: “I have my garden behind my house. In no time, I will start harvesting corn, vegetables, and other crops. On a lighter note, I am ready to share with you,” she stated.
Some of beneficiaries who spoke to the press, expressed appreciation for the recognition of their profession and commended the wife of the president for the support.
