Oborevwori Champions Inclusive Governance, Tasks Delta Leaders on Advisory Role
Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, unity, and people-focused leadership, calling on members of the State Advisory Council to deepen their role in shaping policy and strengthening peace across the state.
The governor made the appeal on Thursday, April 30, 2026, during a meeting of the Council at Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.
Oborevwori commended the council, led by Samuel Oyovbaire, describing it as a vital institution whose guidance remains critical to governance and decision-making in the state.
He noted that Delta continues to stand out as a model of inclusiveness, where people from diverse ethnic backgrounds and non-indigenes coexist without discrimination.
“Unity and collective responsibility are essential for sustainable development,” the governor stated.
The governor also condoled with the council and the people of Delta State over the passing of former Deputy Governor, Benjamin Elue, praising his contributions to the growth of the state.
Emphasising the importance of the council’s advisory mandate, Oborevwori urged members to provide more frequent, practical, and solution-oriented recommendations to guide government policies.
“Your reports are critical at this stage. They help us assess performance and identify areas that need improvement,” he said.
With political activities gaining momentum, the governor charged the council to uphold competence, integrity, and capacity in leadership selection processes, particularly during party primaries.
He warned against sectional considerations, stressing that leadership decisions must prioritise the overall interest of the state.
Oborevwori further encouraged council members to expand their engagement beyond policy discussions by interacting more with communities across the state to better reflect grassroots realities.
He also highlighted the importance of national consciousness, urging leaders to project a balanced and constructive image of Delta State and Nigeria.
Reflecting on his administration’s performance nearing three years in office, the governor called for honest evaluation based on tangible impact and public perception.
“Effective leadership requires humility, wisdom, and the ability to listen and unite the people,” he added.
The governor expressed appreciation to the Advisory Council for its continued support, reaffirming his commitment to building a more inclusive, peaceful, and prosperous Delta State.
