Oborevwori Condemns Police Killing of Delta Youth, Vows Justice
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has condemned the killing of a Delta youth, Mena Otidi, allegedly by a police officer, describing the incident as barbaric and a grave violation of human life.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor denounced the actions of ASP Nuhu Usman, stating that the act was unwarranted and unlawful.
Oborevwori expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the family of the deceased, stressing that no citizen deserves such brutality.
He emphasized that the protection of lives remains a top priority under his administration.
The governor also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force for what he described as swift and decisive disciplinary actions taken in response to the incident.
This includes the approval for dismissal and prosecution of officers found culpable.
Oborevwori insisted that all officers involved in the incident, as seen in a widely circulated video, must be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in line with the law.
He stressed that justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done.
The governor assured the bereaved family of the state government’s full support in pursuing justice and pledged that the case would be followed through to its logical conclusion.
He further called on residents to remain calm and law-abiding, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the rule of law, protection of lives, and the promotion of a just society.
