Oborevwori Commends Christians for Unwavering Support, Attends Mariere’s Thanksgiving


Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has expressed gratitude to the Church for unwavering support and prayers, even as he acknowledged their contribution to the achievements of his administration.

Governor Oborevwori conveyed his appreciation to the church during the Thanksgiving Service by Hon. Samuel Oghenevwogaga Mariere on his appointment as Chairman of the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), held at Saint Paul’s Anglican Church Evwreni in Ughelli North local government area.

The Thanksgiving Service was attended by the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, some serving and former members of the State Assembly, Civil Commissioners, Chairmen and Members of Government Boards and Parastatals, Royal Fathers, Permanent Secretaries, other top government functionaries, political heavyweights, PDP faithfuls as well as other well-wishers.

Addressing members and guests present at the St. Paul’s Anglican Church Evwreni, during the thanksgiving service, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori said the Church has no doubt played a major role towards the success of past and present administration of the state, specifically through prayers.

He affirmed his government’s commitment to aiding the Church in fostering a God-fearing state that remains blessed by the hand of God and commended their support for his administration.

The Governor who was represented by the Chief of Staff Government House, Hon Johnson Erijo, praised Hon Samuel Mariere for always returning to God in thanksgiving for His Grace upon his life and those of his family, saying that thanksgiving always ushers in more blessings from God.

He stated that Mariere’s appointment as Chairman State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, was well deserved and urged him to strive for the best at all times.

In his sermon entitled “A Token of Appreciation”, Venerable Eghere said the importance of Thanksgiving to God cannot be over-emphasized, stressing that God always opens more doors for those who seek His face in Thanksgiving.

Reading from the scripture, Matthew 26 verses 6 to 7, Venerable Eghere appreciated Hon Samuel Mariere for putting God first and called on Government appointees to always lead with the fear of God.

Hon Samuel Mariere while acknowledging God’s faithfulness to him and his family,  expressed a heartfelt gratitude to God for His mercies.

He explained that his appointment as Chairman SUBEB is divine, and further appreciated the state Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori for finding him worthy to serve.

The highlight of the service was a special thanksgiving to God by Hon Samuel Mariere accompanied by his wife, family and well-wishers.

Prayers were offered for him, his family, the state government and the country at large.

A reception for guests and well-wishers was held at Camp Ambrose Ogheneurhie Road Country Home of Hon Mariere in Evwreni.

The ceremony featured lots of side attractions, including musical performances and comedy.
