Nicki Minaj Calls for Urgent Action Over Persecution of Christians in Nigeria

American rapper Nicki Minaj has drawn global attention to the persecution of Christians in Nigeria, urging immediate international action during a United Nations event hosted by U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz on Tuesday.

Minaj, who has previously highlighted the issue on X, said she was invited to speak following her posts, which caught the attention of the U.S. diplomat. She thanked former President Donald Trump for prioritizing the protection of Christians worldwide.

Speaking passionately, Minaj said, “In Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes and killed. Churches have been burned, families torn apart, and entire communities live in fear simply because of how they pray.” She added that faith was “under attack in way too many places” and emphasized that religious freedom should allow everyone to express their beliefs without fear.

The rapper clarified that her advocacy was not political, stating, “Protecting Christians in Nigeria is not about taking sides or dividing people. It is about uniting humanity. This is about standing up in the face of injustice.”

Minaj also highlighted the unifying power of music across cultures and religions, calling for solidarity to combat extremism and violence against those expressing their faith.

Her comments follow Trump’s recent designation of Nigeria as a potential addition to the U.S. list of Countries of Particular Concern. The former president warned that continued attacks on Christians could result in the suspension of U.S. aid and possible military intervention.
