NFF Pays Tribute to Chukwueze’s Late Mother
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Mrs Sarah Chukwueze, mother of Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze, who passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
The news of her passing was shared by Chukwueze’s siblings, Princess and David Chukwueze, on social media, announcing the tragic loss in the early hours of the day.
Reacting to the development, NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi described Mrs Chukwueze as a vital and supportive presence in the lives of her children, especially Samuel, noting the player’s frequent public acknowledgment of her influence on his career.
Sanusi said the federation was saddened by her death, especially coming just days after the Super Eagles camp mourned the passing of team captain Wilfred Ndidi’s father.
“We are sad at her departure, coming only a few days after we had to mourn the sudden passing of the father of Super Eagles’ captain, Wilfred Ndidi,” he added, praying for divine comfort for the bereaved family.
The death of Mrs Chukwueze has drawn an outpouring of condolences from fans, teammates, and the broader football community across Nigeria and beyond.
