NANS Threatens Protest Over 2-Month Delay in NELFUND Allowances
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a strong warning of possible nationwide protests over the alleged two-month delay in the payment of student upkeep allowances under the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) scheme.
The student body said it has received widespread complaints from beneficiaries who have not received their stipends, describing the situation as unacceptable and frustrating for students relying on the funds for daily survival.
NANS called on the relevant authorities to urgently intervene and ensure immediate payment of all outstanding allowances, stressing that continued delay could trigger mass action across campuses nationwide.
The association noted that while it remains committed to dialogue, it will not hesitate to mobilise students if the situation is not resolved quickly.
The development adds to growing concerns among students over the efficiency of the NELFUND disbursement process and the impact of delays on academic welfare.
