Labour Party Rules Out Peter Obi for 2027 Presidential Ticket
The Labour Party (LP) has declared that its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will not fly the party’s flag in the 2027 general elections.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Abayomi Arabambi, made this known during an appearance on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics on Monday.
Arabambi said the LP was ready to move forward without Obi, stressing that the party’s momentum in 2023 was not a result of Obi’s popularity but rather the #EndSARS movement and growing dissatisfaction with the Buhari administration.
“We are going to do our 2027 without Peter Obi; he will not have our ticket. The momentum in 2023 was not because of him but because of EndSARS. He only found Labour Party as a vehicle for change and was opportuned to be the face of it,” Arabambi said.
He also accused the party’s Acting National Chairperson, Nenadi Usman, and activist Aisha Yesufu of aligning with Obi, vowing that the LP would move against them.
Arabambi further challenged Obi to formally announce his departure from the Labour Party, accusing him of keeping “one leg in LP, one leg in PDP, and one leg in ADC.”
Recall that Obi had recently urged his supporters to back African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidates during the August by-elections, citing the absence of Labour Party candidates in some areas. The party, however, dismissed Obi’s claim as false and anti-party.
