Iran in Talks with Super Eagles for Pre-2026 FIFA World Cup Friendly
The Iran national football team has opened talks with the Super Eagles of Nigeria to arrange an international friendly match in March as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to reports from Iran’s Tehran Times and Nigerian media, the Football Federation of Iran is finalising plans for warm-up fixtures and has identified Nigeria as a potential March opponent alongside Costa Rica.
The pending friendly is intended to help both teams sharpen tactical cohesion and player fitness ahead of the global tournament, which will take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico later this year.
However, Nigeria’s participation in the friendly remains contingent on the outcome of a pending FIFA ruling regarding the Super Eagles’ eligibility protest against the Democratic Republic of Congo in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Super Eagles officials have expressed hope that a positive ruling will clarify their calendar and allow more preparatory friendlies, including the possible match against Iran.
