Former NNPCL Chief Executive, Kyari Reacts to EFCC’s Investigation
The immediate former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, has responded to reports suggesting that he was taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Kyari dismissed the claims as misinformation, describing them as a calculated attempt to mislead the public.
In a statement obtained from his verified X.com handle, Kyari clarified that he was not in EFCC custody, stating that he is currently taking a well-deserved rest following the dissolution of NNPCL’s management and board.
He emphasized that during his 34 years of service—17 of which were in management positions—he had little time for personal leave and was grateful for the opportunity to serve under Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Kyari reiterated his commitment to accountability, stating that as a Muslim, he believes in answering both to man and to God for his stewardship. He expressed his willingness to respond to lawful queries, emphasizing that public service demands transparency.
Additionally, he urged the media to exercise caution and verify reports before disseminating information that could mislead the public or negatively impact investor confidence in Nigeria.
Kyari also extended his appreciation to family and friends who reached out to him, assuring them that he remains available to address any concerns regarding his tenure.
Kyari is among 14 persons listed by the crime commission on its investigation into perceived misappropriation of funds in the NNPCL by past management.
