F1 Champion Lewis Hamilton Mourns Death of Beloved Dog Roscoe After Pneumonia Battle
Seven-time Formula 1 world champion, Lewis Hamilton, is mourning the death of his cherished bulldog, Roscoe, who passed away on Sunday, September 28, after a battle with pneumonia. The British racing star described the loss as “the hardest decision of my life” after Roscoe spent four days on life support.
In an emotional message shared with fans, Hamilton revealed that Roscoe fought bravely until the very end but could not recover despite intensive medical efforts. “He never stopped fighting, right until the very end,” Hamilton said, adding that holding Roscoe in his final moments was both heartbreaking and deeply personal.
Hamilton, who often shared Roscoe’s adventures with his millions of followers on social media, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support over the years. He described his late companion as “a beautiful soul, an angel, and true friend,” saying their bond was one of the most special parts of his life.
In his emotional tribute, Hamilton revealed: “After four days on life support, fighting with every bit of strength he had, I had to make the hardest decision of my life and say goodbye to Roscoe. He never stopped fighting, right until the very end.”
He also said: “Bringing Roscoe into my life was the best decision I ever made” and expressed gratitude to fans for their support through Roscoe’s struggle.”
Roscoe was more than a pet to Hamilton — he was a companion and fixture in the F1 paddock. He often traveled to races, had a significant social media following (~1.4 million on Instagram), and was even granted a paddock pass on occasion.
Hamilton’s previous dog, Coco, died in 2020; in his tribute, Hamilton reflected that while he had lost Coco before, he had never before faced the task of putting a dog to sleep.
Hamilton withdrew from a scheduled Pirelli tyre testing session to be by Roscoe’s side during his ordeal, demonstrating how serious he took his pet’s medical emergency.
The news has prompted an outpouring of condolences from the F1 community. The official Formula 1 account on X described Roscoe as “a true star in his own right.”
