D’Tigress Advances to Semifinals with Dominant Win Over Cameroon

Nigeria’s D’Tigress has advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket tournament in Abidjan, keeping their title defense campaign alive.

The team secured a dominant 83-47 win over Cameroon, extending their unbeaten run in Africa to 27 games dating back to 2015.

Reigning MVP Amy Okonkwo led the charge for the defending champions. The team took the lead at 5-4 with Elizabeth Balogun’s jump shot and went on an 8-0 run in the last 2:40 of the first quarter to lead 21-9. Despite Cameroon’s adjustments, Nigeria maintained their lead, trailing only 41-29 at halftime.

A decisive 25-2 run in the third quarter sealed the fate of the 2021 bronze medalists. Nigeria will face Senegal in the first semifinal game on Saturday.

After the game, guard Ezinne Kalu praised her team’s performance, saying, “We just needed to stick together and play Nigerian basketball. This is the definition of Nigerian basketball: fighting, throwing the first punch, setting the tone, and bringing the energy to win over our supporters and fans.”
