Delta State Government Donates Green Maria Operational Vehicles to Nigerian Correctional Service
The Delta State Government has reinforced its commitment to security and the justice system with the donation of five brand-new operational vehicles, popularly known as “Green Marias,” to the Delta State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori officially handed over the vehicles on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Government House, Asaba, saying the gesture was aimed at improving the operational capacity of the Correctional Service and strengthening security across the state.
Represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, the governor said reliable logistics and mobility remain essential for the effective operation of correctional facilities and the administration of justice.
According to him, the new operational vehicles will enhance the daily activities of correctional officers, improve response time, strengthen supervision and coordination, and support the efficient discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori represented by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme at the prresentation of Green Maria operational vehicles to the Delta State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Asaba.
“By equipping the Command with the tools it needs to perform optimally, we are reinforcing our commitment to a more efficient justice and security system.
“As I hand over these five brand-new operational vehicles today, I reaffirm the commitment of the Delta State Government to working with all security and justice institutions in building a safer and more secure Delta State for all,” Oborevwori said.
The governor noted that although the Nigerian Correctional Service is a federal institution, its role remains vital to the safety, security and well-being of residents.
He explained that the donation aligns with the Enhanced Peace and Security pillar of his administration’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, adding that the state government would continue to partner with federal security agencies to sustain peace and create an enabling environment for development.
“A secure and peaceful Delta State remains the foundation for sustainable development and shared prosperity,” he added.
Governor Oborevwori also urged the leadership of the Correctional Service to maintain the vehicles properly and ensure they are used strictly for official duties with the highest level of professionalism and accountability.
Responding, the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Mr. Sylvester Nwackuche, represented by the Controller of Corrections, Delta State Command, Mr. Chuke Idoko, expressed appreciation to the governor and the Delta State Government for the timely intervention.
He assured that the vehicles would be deployed effectively to enhance correctional operations and improve service delivery across the state.
The presentation ceremony was attended by the Secretary to the Delta State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, commissioners, and other top government officials.
