Delta Introduces QR Code Verification for Commercial Vehicles, Enforcement Begins July 13
The Delta State Government has introduced a QR Code/Barcode Verification Scheme for commercial vehicles as part of efforts to strengthen security, improve vehicle identification, and enhance the regulation of public transportation across the state.
The initiative, announced by the Directorate of Transport, will require all commercial vehicles operating within Delta State to obtain and display an approved QR code or barcode for verification before the commencement of enforcement on Monday, July 13, 2026.
According to a public notice signed by the Director of Public Communication and Functioning Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Stella Macaulay, the Directorate has engaged Wydil Innovative Limited as the consultant responsible for implementing the verification scheme.
The government explained that the exercise is designed to facilitate the registration, onboarding, coding, data collection, and verification of commercial vehicles operating within the state.
It noted that the scheme would improve security by making it easier to identify registered commercial vehicles while promoting a safer, more efficient, and better-regulated transport system.
The state government also advised commuters and other members of the public to patronize only commercial vehicles displaying the approved QR Code/Barcode Verification, describing the measure as an important step toward enhancing public safety.
Commercial drivers and transport operators have been directed to obtain the approved verification code for their vehicles without delay to avoid sanctions when enforcement begins.
The government urged all stakeholders in the transport sector to comply fully with the directive and support its efforts to modernize the state’s transportation system while improving security and service delivery.
