Delta Announces Statewide Movement Restriction for May 30 Monthly Sanitation Exercise
The Delta State Government has announced that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise for May 2026 will hold across the state on Saturday, May 30, with restriction of movement between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
The announcement was made in a public notice issued to residents and communities across Delta State ahead of the exercise aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness and public health.
According to the notice, both vehicular and human movement will be restricted during the exercise to ensure full compliance and effective participation by residents.
The government urged residents to clear overgrown weeds around their surroundings, desilt drainage channels to prevent flooding, and maintain proper sanitation within at least a 20-metre radius of their homes and business premises.
Authorities stressed that environmental sanitation remained a collective responsibility necessary for preventing the spread of diseases and maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Jamani Ejiro, alongside officials of the Ministry and other environmental agencies, is expected to monitor compliance across different parts of the state during the exercise.
The government also warned that defaulters would be arrested, prosecuted before Mobile Magistrate Courts, and fined accordingly.
Residents were further encouraged to actively participate in the sanitation exercise as part of efforts to keep Delta State safe, healthy, and environmentally friendly.
