Delta to Launch Statewide Distribution of FG-Donated Life Jackets from July 20

Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy on Monday, July 20, 2026, as part of efforts to improve safety on the state’s waterways.

The exercise will begin in Warri before extending to other riverine communities across Delta State, targeting boat operators, ferry owners, transport unions, passengers and other stakeholders in the water transportation sector.

According to the government, beneficiaries include members of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), registered associations of boat and ferry operators, as well as stakeholders across Delta’s three senatorial districts.

The distribution forms part of the Directorate of Transport’s ongoing waterway safety campaign aimed at promoting compliance with safety standards, improving safe navigation and reducing the incidence of boat accidents and related fatalities across the state.

The government urged all concerned stakeholders to participate in the exercise and cooperate with the Directorate of Transport to ensure the successful implementation of the safety initiative.

The intervention underscores Delta State’s commitment to strengthening water transportation safety and protecting the lives of residents who depend on inland waterways for their daily activities.
